3 Tips for Prolonging the Life of Your Carpet
October 15, 2014
Carpets are built well these days, but they are not made to last forever. At some point, you might have to replace your carpeting, but it’s in your power to delay this costly endeavor through proper carpet care. Take a look at these tips and follow them to prolong the life of your carpet.
Get a Good Vacuum
Consider a good vacuum cleaner an investment. Not only will it make your indoor air cleaner and save you time cleaning, but it can take better care of your carpets too! A vacuum with good suction will pick up dirt and sand from deep inside the carpet, where it’s likely to come in contact with the backing and cause wear. Moreover, a good vacuum requires fewer back-and-forth motions and less frequent vacuuming, which reduces any fiber wear a vacuum may cause with its rotating brushes.
Take the Shoes off
Your shoes might look clean, but they are covered in dust and particles you can’t see. These particles get transferred onto the carpet and soil it over time. The carpets are intentionally soft and warm, allowing us to enjoy them without the shoes on. If walking on your carpet across the room turns your white socks gray, you need a professional cleaning, not shoes.
Hire a Professional
Residential vacuum cleaners, no matter how good they are, can’t compare to the commercial carpet cleaning equipment. They miss some dirt but, more importantly, they do nothing for stains and oils. Over time, heavy-traffic carpeted areas may start looking dingy no matter how often you vacuum. Hiring a professional carpet cleaner to deep-clean your carpets once a year is a good strategy to keep your carpets looking like new and lasting longer.
